But No Rain…. A Spring Haibun*

All night the wind buffeted the house howling and wailing and moaning throwing its weight around tossing things finally winding down as I rose up from uneasy sleep to coffee sweet with birdsong and a bruised sky casting an eye squinting eye opening light through pollen yellow leaves aglow against my neighbor’s white frame house tree trunks receding infinitely dark behind forsythia sparking gold yellow fire across lawns green fresh….

Utterly still—

the air between dog

and squirrel

*What is a Haibun?
